Following the Architect’s report in February, St Martin’s has launched an appeal for emergency repairs to the roofs of the nave and aisles and to the stonework. They will cost £10,545. We must get this work done before winter.
We have just heard that we have been awarded two grants. One from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust and the other from Allchurches Trust. Together they amount to £3,500 which gets us off to a great start but we need everyone to join in and give as generously as possible. We enjoy worshiping in a magnificent building but caring for it is expensive.
Meanwhile, we want to give heartfelt thanks to The Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust. It is an old friend who helped us with the installation of the toilets and coffee bar some years ago. It provides a lifeline for Yorkshire’s Churches and would appreciate it if some of us can donate £35 to become members. Visit www.yhct.org.uk for more information. Likewise, we are greatly indebted to Allchurches Trust which is one of the UK’s largest grant-making trusts and benefits churches, charities and community projects. These Trusts have given us a great base on which to build.
