A small and select group of St Martin’s people gathered by the gates of Roundhay Park armed with waterproofs and jumpers on a Sunday afternoon in July for what we hoped would be a very pleasant walk and picnic.
Revd Jane and Maybeline were already there at the appointed time of 2pm when Sue Carrie and Maureen joined them with Maureen’s beloved dog Sam.
We set off at a fairly leisurely pace but were kept occupied with much quoit throwing for Sam who very obediently brought it back to us for more of the same. We headed in the direction of Waterloo Lake (resisting the motorised train which will take you through the park) and we walked all the way round. It was lovely to see the ducks and moorhens and other species unknown to us on the lake. About three quarters of the way round Maureen decided to throw Sam’s quoit into the water for him to fetch and wash his feet at the same time but he was having none of it – so there it remains – who says Sam is not the Boss?
We eventually found a nice quiet stretch of grass to enjoy our picnic and then had a leisurely stroll back to our cars having enjoyed each other’s company and benefited from exercise and fresh air – and it did NOT rain!!!!
Do come and join us another time.
