St Martin’s wishes to develop an ongoing programme of art exhibitions, to provide opportunities for local artists to show their work and create a social space for the people of LS7, with the aim of strengthening and expanding the community through new dialogues and friendships.
We are seeking proposals from artists from those living in LS7 or beyond, working in any media, with the aim of creating a programme of exhibitions for 2019. We are interested in work that has a connection and relevance to place, and that the artist has an awareness of the local area. We also ask that the content of the work is sensitive to the context of a practicing church congregation and to the function of the building.
The church is a Grade two listed building, and the artist will need to consider this in the proposed display of their work. If selected the presentation of the work will be explored and could include plinths to stand work on, easels to hold work, objects to be placed on window ledges, images to be hung from the aisle arches, identifying space for moving image and screen-based work. There will also be an opening provided by the church, with some flyers and publicity produced through local and wider networks (details of this will have to be negotiated and agreed on an ad hoc basis).
Please send proposals to exhibitions@stmartinleeds.org.uk
Please include:
- Up to 5 jpgs, with title, media, and size of work
- A short bio of up to 100 words
- A short piece of writing about the work of up to 200 words, including ideas about how the work should ideally be displayed
- Useful links to websites, images of work etc.
Please send large files by we-transfer.
What Happens Next?
We will normally be in contact 6-8 weeks after application to let you know if we can take your proposal further. If you do not hear from us we may keep your info on file for up to one year, in case another opportunity arises to show your work.
